Poem Draft #1

The homeless man wedged up against the plastic seat
on the subway car's floor has become her distant family member.

She finds a strange comfort in her night rides through
the city's dark tunnels, the lights flashing
against the crusted pexi glass windows.
It is her sanctuary to be so close to
people who are breathing the same air,
living the life.

For at home, she is alone.
